The shootings and murders that took place in Atlanta last week (and a surge of violent attacks in California and across the nation this past year) are another painful reminder of the threats that Asian American and Pacific Islander communities face, especially women. We will not ignore the legacy and deep entanglement of white supremacy, racism, xenophobia, and gender based violence in this country.

In the words of Grace Lee Boggs, Asian American author and activist, “Every crisis, actual or impending, needs to be viewed as an opportunity to bring about profound changes in our society. […] Visionary organizing begins by creating images and stories of the future that help us imagine and create alternatives to the existing system.”

At The Solutions Project, we will continue to stand in solidarity, and support women, Asian American and Pacific Islander, Black, Indigenous, Immigrant, other people of color and LGBTQ communities as these communities continue to stand up, speak out, and transmute hate into love and belonging for all people.

Here are 3 ways to stand with Georgia’s Asian American and Pacific Islander communities today:

  1. Read and sign onto Asian Americans Advancing Justice Atlanta’s community statement.
  2. Donate to support victims of this violence and their families.
  3. Offer resources like counseling, legal services and translation.

I hope that you are taking good care of your heart, mind and spirit as we continue to navigate and transform these difficult and heavy times into the future we want and all people deserve.

I am so grateful to be a part of a movement that understands the interconnection of all people; and lives into the reality that no one is free until we are all free.
